Developer People Can Fly, known for their expertise in the shooter genre, is teaming up with Sony Interactive Entertainment for an exciting new venture, announced today: a video game currently under the enigmatic codename “Project Delta.” Although the ink is barely dry on this fresh partnership, details remain scarce. However, PlayStation enthusiasts are buzzing with the speculation that it may just be a revival of the beloved SOCOM series.
According to an observant Reddit user on the PS5 subreddit, People Can Fly’s collaboration with Sony is set to breathe new life into one of Sony’s intellectual properties. Given the Polish studio’s track record, including titles like Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment, it narrows down the possible franchises considerably. The online community seems to agree, with many hopeful it’s the return of SOCOM, while others suggest Killzone, Resistance, or even Warhawk as possibilities.
One Redditor commented, “It’s gotta be either SOCOM or Killzone, considering their knack for shooters. Resistance wouldn’t be a bad guess either.” Another chimed in with nostalgia, “I wouldn’t mind seeing a Warhawk reboot. That game had the potential to be the next Fortnite, but Sony just didn’t capitalize on it.”
Meanwhile, another user fervently hopes, “Please God, let it be Resistance.”
At the same time, it’s important to remember that, right now, all of these predictions are purely conjecture. It could even end up being a fresh take on Knack as a third-person shooter. We’ll have to sit tight for the next few years to see what unfolds.
For those who might not be familiar, SOCOM was a tactical shooter series that offered intense third-person gameplay on the PS2, PS3, and PSP. Its last installment, SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs, came out in 2011 to lukewarm reviews, holding an average score of 67 on Metacritic based on 64 critiques. The series has been in hibernation ever since, leaving fans eager for a revival.
