Since the exciting announcement that Forza Horizon 5’s PS5 version is on its way, there’s been a lot of buzz about Xbox titles possibly making their debut on Sony’s consoles. The chatter right now is all about the iconic Gears of War series. Word has it that Marcus Fenix, along with his battle against the Locust Horde, might be heading to PlayStation consoles later this year. And, rather intriguingly, it appears that this release will be a collection of the first three entries in the Gears of War saga, set to launch simultaneously on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
### A Gears of War Collection is Poised for a PS5 Arrival
This juicy tidbit comes from the well-known leaker eXtas1s, who has hinted that a Gears of War collection is indeed in development. Although details on the official announcement are still up in the air, eXtas1s suggests that the collection will be available on multiple platforms right from the start. Even better, it seems the game will feature cross-play, bringing together players from PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
“I can talk about the Gears Collection because it has taken considerable effort to verify its existence, but I am confident it is real,” eXtas1s shared, as translated by ResetEra’s Rychu. “I just don’t know when the announcement will come, but it will be a multiplatform day-one event. To emphasize, these remasters will allow players to cross platforms and play together. The one thing still up in the air is whether it will also release on the Switch, though cross-platform play will definitely be available for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.”
This isn’t the first whisper of Gears of War making its way to the PS5. Just last month, Jez Corden from Windows Central speculated that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition might appear on Sony’s console by 2025.
As with all rumors, it’s best to remain a bit skeptical. Even though we’re hearing similar claims from various insiders, the nature of game development is ever-changing and can upend even the most credible stories. Until we get an official confirmation, dreaming is all we can do.
