Exodus, a sci-fi action role-playing game from Archetype Entertainment, is gearing up for a 2026 launch. With James Ohlen at the helm, who many may recognize from his days at BioWare, this eagerly awaited game promises to be a thrilling blend of storytelling and action adventure.
Exodus marks the first project from Archetype Entertainment, a studio established back in 2019 and a subsidiary of Hasbro through Wizards of the Coast. Ohlen’s track record, which impressively spans from the iconic Baldur’s Gate to the sci-fi landscape of Anthem, adds a layer of excitement and credibility. Joining him are some fellow BioWare veterans, including Drew Karpyshyn, the lead writer from Mass Effect. The Game Awards 2023 offered fans their first peek into Exodus with a trailer featuring none other than Matthew McConaughey. As anticipation builds, Hasbro recently pinned down the game’s release window, much to the delight of fans.
The confirmation came from Hasbro’s CEO, Chris Cocks, during an earnings call, where he expressed enthusiasm about the debut of Archetype Entertainment’s first game. Highlighting Ohlen’s successful career, Cocks indicated this project could significantly contribute to Hasbro’s growth strategy over the coming years.
Fans of the Mass Effect series will find familiarity in the third-person shooter style of Exodus, which offers a narrative that twines through different planetary realms. The game’s story-driven approach is enriched with both action-packed and stealth-based play sequences, as glimpsed in the trailers. Additionally, some of its intriguing lore received a spotlight in an episode of Prime Video’s animated series, Secret Level, which aired in December 2024.
With the 2026 release now publicly on the horizon, it’s likely we’ll hear more from the developers at Archetype Entertainment soon. As the date draws nearer, players can expect more insights and previews to whet their appetites.
On another note, things have been rocky for BioWare, Ohlen’s former workplace. The studio underwent significant restructuring and workforce reductions following lackluster sales of Dragon Age: The Veilguard in 2024. Nevertheless, BioWare reassures fans that the next installment of Mass Effect remains in development, despite these challenges.
