After all this anticipation, the first glimpse of Jurassic World Rebirth is finally here, reminding us of the ageless lesson that resurrecting dinosaurs may be more perilous than it seems.
It’s quite amusing how the classic line, “your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should,” continues to resonate with Jurassic Park enthusiasts. This sentiment seems equally fitting for the producers of the Jurassic World series. Fast forward three years after Dominion, and we’re presented with the inaugural trailer for Rebirth. This film aims for a fresh start following the previous installment, which, despite grossing a billion dollars, didn’t exactly win hearts among critics and fans. Curious to see how they plan to reignite the magic? Dive into the trailer below. It’s packed with dinosaurs galore, and of course, a few humans vying for our attention.
The plot unfolds as follows: “Five years on from the events of Jurassic World Dominion, dinosaurs find the Earth’s ecosystem largely inhospitable. The surviving species cling to existence in isolated equatorial zones that mimic their ancestral habitats. Intriguingly, the DNA of the three most massive creatures from land, sea, and air in these tropical sanctuaries holds secrets to a groundbreaking drug with life-saving potential for humanity.”
Our adventurers venture to an island believed to be the original testing ground of Jurassic Park. Here, it seems some of the scientists have extended their creative license a bit too far. In a Vanity Fair chat with director Gareth Edwards (known for his work on Star Wars: Rogue One), it was revealed that the movie introduces a fictional dinosaur. This new beast pays homage to Star Wars’ Rancor, the eerie designs of H.R. Giger, and the iconic T. rex—keep an eye out for it in the trailer.
Edwards is on a mission to reintroduce the thrills, noting, “Jurassic Park is a horror film in disguise. It’s not often seen in that light today. As kids, we were captivated, yet the T. rex scene gave me genuine chills. It’s cinema at its finest, and living up to that scene’s legacy is no small feat.”
Luckily, we don’t have to wait too long to see how Edwards’ vision unfolds—Jurassic World Rebirth is set to hit theaters this July 2. Mark your calendars!
