Blizzard has laid it all out for fans eagerly anticipating Diablo 4’s upcoming Season of Witchcraft, marking the seventh season for the game. In a recent reveal, the team shared a host of exciting new content and noteworthy changes slated for this season.
Just last night, the Diablo crew kicked off their first livestream of the year, offering a deeper dive into what players can expect, from adjustments in class balance to gameplay updates and other alterations made since the December PTR.
Among the thrilling features of any new Diablo 4 season is the class rebalancing, and this time around, it’s all eyes on the Season of Witchcraft. It’s particularly significant because this is the debut season for the Spiritborn class to undergo some major revamps.
The Spiritborn made its entrance with the Vessel of Hatred expansion at the start of Season 6. Given its fresh debut, the class hadn’t been around long enough for any major changes—in fact, players have only just started fully exploring its potential.
Once players got their hands on it, the Spiritborn quickly rose to prominence as the powerhouse of the season. Even without considering the early exploits quickly patched out, this class’s various builds dominated the field and outclassed its peers by a mile.
During Season 6, instead of disrupting the established meta, Blizzard opted to let players enjoy the Spiritborn’s reign, while hinting at adjustments in the pipeline for Season 7 that would tone down some of its room-clearing capabilities.
As Season 6 draws to a close and Season 7 looms on the horizon, the expected nerfs to the Spiritborn have indeed rolled out. Yet, to everyone’s surprise, it continues to hold its ground as a formidable class choice.
Taking a closer look, the Spiritborn was strong during the patch 2.1 PTR, and Blizzard’s changes have largely focused on ironing out unintended boosts that caused spikes last season. There’s also a fresh Unique item and a new Aspect for Razor Wings builds, adding variety to its playstyle.
Meanwhile, the Sorcerer has been identified as Season 7 PTR’s underdog. In response, Blizzard has beefed up several of its passives. Notably, the Legendary Paragon nodes, Searing Heat and Icefall, have been enhanced to better align with more build types. Additionally, Sorcerers are receiving two new Uniques aimed at flesh-out lightning builds.
The upcoming patch also touches upon other classes. Druids, for instance, are set to receive a game-altering overhaul. Historically slow in early stages due to resource regeneration, the class will now enjoy a smoother progression courtesy of updates to Spirit Boon. Blurred Beast has been reimagined to aid shred builds as well.
The Barbarian gets a boost too, with the Hammer of the Ancients being buffed yet again. This ties in nicely with the introduction of a new Unique chest piece, perfect for those into earthquake builds. Whirlwind enthusiasts will notice some significant numeric increases as well.
For a comprehensive look at all these changes, the 2.1.0 patch notes are available on Blizzard’s official blog. Get ready as the Season of Witchcraft kicks off on Tuesday, January 21.
