Bossa Games, a creative hub nestled in London, has recently faced the hard choice of reducing its workforce, although the precise number of affected employees remains under wraps.
Henrique Olifiers, the studio’s co-CEO and co-founder, shared insights into this decision on LinkedIn, indicating that these layoffs were unfortunately necessary as they gear up for the launch of their highly anticipated game, Lost Skies.
He revealed that post-launch, Bossa Games plans to reorganize into smaller teams. This approach aims to spark creativity and foster the development of new games at a faster pace.
Olifiers explained, “The choice to downsize was incredibly tough, but it’s crucial for us to zero in on bringing Lost Skies to completion and ensure it thrives for its audience once it’s released. Our goal is to transform, allowing nimble teams to pursue innovative game ideas and reach gamers sooner.”
He added, “This transition means parting ways with some remarkably talented colleagues, individuals who have been pivotal to our journey and are esteemed members of the gaming world. It’s heart-wrenching, and while we hoped to avoid such measures, our efforts fell short in preventing this outcome.”
Earlier in 2024, Bossa reduced its workforce by about a third, marking a significant shift within the company as it navigates these challenging times.
