NVIDIA’s latest driver update, intended to tackle the pesky black screen problem plaguing RTX 50 GPU users, seems to have backfired for a lot of people, making matters even worse for some.
### NVIDIA’s Driver Update Fails to Address Crash Issues, Worsens Problems for Gamers
It looks like Team Green’s journey with the RTX 50 Blackwell GPUs hasn’t been smooth sailing, as issues continue to pile up. Among the myriad of problems, one significant concern is players facing crashes and black screens while gaming. In an attempt to solve this, NVIDIA rolled out their Game Ready 572.60 driver, promising to fix problems related to the DisplayPort connection and the BIOS. But, as @mpr_reviews shared on Twitter, the new update has intensified the problem, causing games that support Multi-Frame Generation (MFG) to crash.
> “Using the latest Nvidia driver 572.60 causes every game that supports multi frame generation to black screen crash and restart my PC on the RTX 5080 when MFG 3x or 4x is used. Either at game startup or when exiting the game. The latest 572.65 hotfix driver also exhibits the same…”

There are claims that games supporting MFG are consistently crashing for users, even after they applied the 572.65 “hotfix.” While these black-screen issues aren’t exclusive to MFG titles, they are more prevalent with them, indicating that NVIDIA’s latest driver hasn’t been the hoped-for solution. Although widespread reports haven’t yet surfaced since the update came out, the initial feedback clearly suggests a persistent problem. The crux of the issue might be tied to how MFG interacts with RTX 50 Blackwell GPUs, but for now, it’s all speculative.
> “It happened to me today playing Death Stranding on my 5080 with DLSS and frame gen turned off, it was weird. It didn’t happen in any driver and I thought it could be an overheating, but I was monitoring the temps and both CPU and GPU was below 65. Gonna rollback the driver.”

For those still grappling with crashes post-update, we encourage you to share your experiences with us so we can relay them to NVIDIA for a better response. Many users, including @mpr_reviews, are opting to revert to the previous driver, noting stability improved with the older version. This issue remains a developing story, and we’ll need additional reports before understanding the core cause.
With the launch of AMD’s RX 9070 series just around the corner, it’s unfortunate to see NVIDIA’s RTX 50 GPUs causing such disappointment among users, potentially giving Team Red an advantage unless NVIDIA can swiftly address these problems.
