If you’ve come across a peculiar glitch in Destiny 2 lately, there’s no need to be concerned—Bungie knows about it and isn’t rushing for a fix anytime soon.
In the world of gaming, bugs and glitches are as distinctive as fingerprints for each title. While you might argue that other forms of media have their unpredictabilities—like a live theater performance with the occasional on-stage blunder—it’s a completely different ballgame in the gaming universe. Occasionally, these small hiccups in games become endearing quirks, kind of like an unanticipated bonus. A good example is how Celeste introduced a specific animation solely because players discovered they could dash through razor-thin gaps in the spike walls. Bungie, on the other hand, isn’t taking such drastic steps with Destiny 2’s latest glitch, but they are certainly giving it a warm nod.
Post the launch of the Heresy expansion, Destiny 2 players stumbled upon a bug allowing three exotic glaives—the Edge of Intent, the Edge of Concurrence, and the Edge of Action—to be equipped across all classes, defying their usual class restrictions. Bungie recently acknowledged this curveball in a blog post, mentioning they’ve observed widespread enjoyment as these restrictions disappeared.
Initially, Bungie’s instincts leaned toward fixing the issue to preserve the game’s class integrity. Their initial thought was, “It’s a bit odd seeing Warlocks or Hunters tossing mini-bubbles around or Titans with ninja-like speed.” However, after some good ol’ team deliberations, they chose to let this one slide, effectively turning a bug into an unexpected feature.
A quick heads-up from Bungie: some animations might look a bit off, but that’s because these combinations weren’t initially planned. They also noticed that allowing class-specific glaives to cross classes sparked some creative build strategies. Moving forward, they’ll be paying close attention to how these glaives perform across all classes.
Bungie did want to set some expectations too. This isn’t a blanket policy of glitch acceptance; they’ll assess future bugs on a case-by-case basis. The embrace of this particular bug felt just right, but don’t get too comfortable—Bungie isn’t likely to give a free pass to every quirky bug that comes their way.
