It seems like Sony is finally making strides to address the long-standing issues with the PS5’s Activity Cards feature. For quite a while, these cards have been more of a nuisance than a help, especially after Sony removed the ‘Resume Activity’ function, rendering them nearly useless. However, today’s PS5 system update hints that Sony hasn’t completely abandoned the idea of improving Activity Cards.
The latest system update beta for February 2025 brings some enhancements to Activity Cards. The loss of the ‘Resume Activity’ feature had heavily impacted the usefulness of these cards, turning them into an overlooked aspect of the console. Towards the end of last year, I pointed out how some Activity Cards weren’t working correctly, while others displayed the wrong information.
In the patch notes for this latest PS5 system software update beta, which is available only to those with an invitation, Sony notes:
“We’ve made it simpler to view details about activities. Activity details are now fully displayed on cards. Potential spoilers will still be hidden.”
While it seems that the ‘Resume Activity’ feature might indeed be a thing of the past, these updates suggest that the previously buggy cards should now function correctly. Although I’m cautiously optimistic—since only time and extensive player testing will tell if they work well across numerous games—any improvement is welcome.
Remember, Sony did put considerable emphasis on Activity Cards in the lead-up to the PS5’s launch, so it’s been quite puzzling to see this feature left in the dust for so long.
