If you’re not quite satisfied with the tiny screens of today’s handheld devices, Tencent’s got something that might just pique your interest. As reported by Videocardz, Tencent has unveiled a new device that leans more towards being a portable console than a typical handheld gadget: the Sunday Dragon 3D One. With a hefty Intel Lunar Lake CPU under the hood, this device also boasts an impressive 11-inch display that promises an immersive gaming experience—assuming you can actually manage to hold it.
The 3D One is no slouch when it comes to specs. It’s equipped with the Core Ultra 7 258V, which includes four Lion Cove performance cores and four Skymont efficiency cores, and features an Arc 140V integrated GPU sporting eight Xe2 cores. Our in-depth assessments reveal that Intel’s latest Lunar Lake CPUs are catching up to AMD’s Strix Point (Ryzen AI 300 APUs) in gaming capabilities. It also comes with a significant 32GB of LPDDR5X-8533 RAM, more than enough for today’s demanding tasks, although it’s soldered onto the CPU die, leaving no room for memory upgrades. The device’s 1TB SSD is described as “high-speed” and can be upgraded if you’re looking for more space or faster performance.
Interestingly, the Sunday Dragon 3D One might take the spotlight as the first Lunar Lake handheld to hit the market—if it makes its debut this year, which would be ahead of MSI’s Claw 8 AI+ slated for an early 2025 release. However, keep your expectations in check, as Videocardz notes this device is currently just a prototype. Sporting a stunning 11-inch 2560×1440 display with a 120Hz refresh rate, it could practically double as a compact laptop. Meanwhile, GPD is preparing its Pocket 4 mini laptops, but even those feature displays maxing out at 8.8 inches. Tencent’s latest creation is packed with real-time eye-tracking for a glasses-free 3D (autostereoscopic) effect, and they’ve optimized games like Path of Exile, Blade & Soul, and Arena Breakout: Infinite to take advantage of this tech.
The built-in controllers come equipped with Hall Effect joysticks, linear triggers, and two customizable buttons on the rear. What’s more, these controllers are detachable, so if you’re keen on swapping them out for third-party options, you can—as long as they’re compatible with the 3D One’s unique size. The device also supports 100W fast charging, though the battery capacity remains a mystery for now.
It’s fair to say that the 3D One embraces an unconventional design philosophy. While handheld devices are generally expected to be ergonomic and easy to hold for extended gaming sessions, sometimes the small screens just don’t do justice to the intricate beauty of games. Currently, the 3D One is still in its prototype phase, which might mean limited availability, both geographically and due to its potential niche appeal.
