In recent days, there’s been a flood of reports about the GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs malfunctioning, often described as “bricked.” This has prompted NVIDIA to start digging into the issue, trying to uncover what exactly is going wrong.
News has been circulating about both the RTX 5090 and its Chinese counterpart, the RTX 5090D, facing similar technical woes. Users have been banging their heads against the wall in frustration, experimenting with various fixes, but for many, these efforts have been in vain. Some folks have claimed success with some out-of-the-box solutions, yet the lion’s share are still stuck with non-functional GPUs. Given how widespread this problem has become, it eventually caught NVIDIA’s attention, and NVIDIA finally broke their silence about it. According to PC Gamer, the company stated:
“We are investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series.”
That’s all we’ve got so far. No deep dive into specifics has come from NVIDIA, but it’s promising that they’re on the case. For those not in the loop, we covered this glitch in an earlier article. In a nutshell, users are finding their RTX 5090 and 5090D GPUs are unable to fire up any monitor display, with screens going dark post driver updates.
This hasn’t been a rare occurrence; it’s been consistent across numerous accounts. The glitch shows up immediately after users install NVIDIA’s latest driver. Even reverting to an earlier version doesn’t guarantee relief, with many finding their GPU going MIA on their system’s radar entirely. Some have tried resetting the BIOS, only to find the GPU is still a no-show in both the Device Manager and BIOS setups.
The heart of the problem remains elusive, although whispers suggest it might stem from architectural or driver compatibility issues, rather than a hardware malfunction. Until NVIDIA sheds more light, we can only speculate, as a lasting fix hasn’t yet surfaced for the RTX 5090 and 5090D predicament.
