Over the past week, we’ve seen a series of intriguing leaks regarding the Nintendo Switch 2’s anticipated final design. These leaks culminated in a surprising move from Dbrand yesterday when they shared a fully detailed 3D render of what appears to be the Nintendo Switch 2. This render, interestingly, features their own updated version of the Killswitch carrying case, which has been adapted for the upcoming console. In a conversation with The Verge, Dbrand’s CEO, Adam Ijaz, stated that they accessed the actual dimensions of the Switch 2 through a 3D scan of genuine hardware. This design is about 270mm wide with the Joy-Cons attached, narrowing down to 200mm without them. It’s approximately 116mm tall and 14mm thick.
The design of the purported Nintendo Switch 2 suggests an upgrade with a sizable 8-inch screen, which is a step up from the Switch OLED’s 7.2-inch display and the original Switch’s 6.2-inch screen. There’s an intriguing addition, a “C” button on the right Joy-Con, possibly for capturing screenshots or videos. The Joy-Cons themselves are magnetically detachable and appear more ergonomically curved, featuring USB-C ports on both the top and bottom, and a wide U-shaped kickstand similar to the enhanced model on the Switch OLED.
Based on all the details we currently have, it looks like the Switch 2 is gearing up for a Q1 2025 launch. However, it’s not expected to sport an OLED screen; instead, most leaks indicate an 8-inch, 1080p IPS LCD display, which we hope surpasses the quality of the current Switch LCD screens.
When it comes to Dbrand’s new Killswitch case for the Switch 2, it veers away from their typical full-body enclosure. Instead, their design accounts for the console’s detachable Joy-Cons, allowing the body to separate as needed. A stylish teal bungee cord holds it all together. Given Dbrand’s solid reputation for creating protective cases for both phones and handheld devices, we’re confident this design will be well-received.
Understandably, many fans are eager to catch a more unaltered glimpse of the Nintendo Switch 2 itself. While that’s neither confirmed nor denied at this point, the specifications released by Dbrand align closely with a 3D-printed mock-up received by YouTube’s channel SwitchUp earlier this week. This might give enthusiasts a better sense of the console’s basic look and feel.
This significant leak from Dbrand, possibly not constrained by an NDA, hints at the likelihood of an official announcement and release date for the Nintendo Switch 2 soon. Previous projections suggested a release before the end of 2024, with Nintendo setting a deadline by March 2025 to reveal more details. Given this timeline, and with companies like Dbrand ramping up their production, anticipation is building for Nintendo’s next major console release.
